Meet the residents of the desert city of Nouakchott

The capital of Mauritania, Nouakchott, is a sprawl of low-rise candy-coloured buildings that seem to grow haphazardly out of the desert. Located on the Atlantic coast, it is home to around one-third of the country's 3.5 million people. I spent a few days walking the streets to shoot portraits of its residents.
